As seasons come and seasons go, do you ever grow weary? Sometimes we find ourselves having done the same thing for so long that we get tired and maybe a little burned out. The joy we once found in doing something has left us. Maybe we’ve been doing something that we’re not called to do. Maybe we just don’t have the heart for it anymore. Believe it or not, it really shows when we get to this point. So, what is the Apostle Paul telling us in Galatians 6:9 “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart”?
It’s a challenge for us to stay refreshed. Some of us pour out more than we allow ourselves to get poured into. That is never healthy in the life of a believer. While serving and ministering, the labor can be hard. We get tired and we grow weary. That is why we need to focus on the right things. I believe that is what Paul is saying to us about “doing good”. There are many things vying for our time and attention, we cannot accomplish them all, but if we focus on the things God has called us to do, “the good” then we pace ourselves better for the race we have been called to run. We also need the encouragement of other believers. That is why discipleship is so important. This is where we get poured into. This is where our hearts get challenged.
So, if you are feeling weary? Ask, am I doing the right things that God would have me do? Do I need to step back from something I’ve been doing because I just don’t find any joy there anymore? Am I running on empty because I’m not allowing myself to be poured into?
